hola!

hey hey! Are you visiting today from A Cup of Jo? Welcome!  I wish you could all come over for a bowl of beans and rice so that I could tell you everything I know about my city;  after lunch I would take you to our favorite coffee shop down the street, and then we would visit at least three different parks, and on the way home I would show you the best place in our neighborhood to buy avocados.

Since you can't all come over (sigh), please enjoy peeking into our neighborhood through my blog!

p.s. the problem with cleaning dry black beans is that a black bean looks so much like a little rock, and a little rock look so much like a black bean. I'll get better at this; I know I will!

  1. Your post on Cup of Jo today was so wonderful. I rarely read through the entire "motherhood around the world" posts, but I was captivated by your journal of these fascinating tidbits about your life in Mexico! My husband and I just moved to Southern California and I really want to visit Mexico City sometime soon. I will be sure to get in touch with you if/when we do. :)

Thanks so much again for sharing! God bless you and your family.

  2. Hi Naomi!
I have been reading Cup of Joe for years now and I was so excited to find out that you and your husband both attended Master's college! I graduated from their as well in 2007. :)
My husband and I will be moving to Malawi, Africa next year. (He's from there and I'm from California.) So your post was very encouraging. Great to see how much you are enjoying Mexico City. I visited there one time on a short terms missions trip and I really liked it. :)

I'm Mexican and I was refreshed by how little details of our culture can truly be fascinating and new to other cultures. 4. Hi Naomi! I am a new visitor as well since I read your post today at A Cup of Jo. I am so glad you are enjoying the different aspects of my city, it takes being sensitive and open to be able to find the beauty on each culture even though the "roughness" and complexities a city as Mexico City has... What a wonderful post of yours since many many readers are now so curious about Mexico City. Although you have being living here for a long time already (3 years?), BIENVENIDA again! I am a mom too and felt even prouder of my culture after reading your post. I'll also be stopping by your blog more often! Lindo día!

  5. Naomi, I have been reading your blog for a couple of years, and it was so fun to see your post on A Cup of Jo!! I immediately said, "I know that family!!" though only through your blog. :) It was also fun to read that you and your husband met at TMC...I also attended there from 2004-2008! (Just saw Amanda's comment up top...she's my friend and neighbor. :) Both of our hubbies are studying at The Master's Seminary.) My husband and I are preparing to move to Leon, Spain, Lord willing, next year to work with a couple missionary families, so it's been neat to read posts where you reminisce about España. :)God bless!

  6. Loved your heartfelt entry this morning for A Cup of Jo! My father is from Chihuahua, Mexico and I remember hearing his stories from when he lived there (though that was 45 years ago, and I know things have changed).
I wish you all the best as you continue in your ministry serving our God! Thanks again for sharing!
    God bless!

  10. Hola! Beautiful post on A Cup of Jo, pretty interesting conversation thread, which all led me to your wonderful blog. A friend sent this to me because I have been living in Mexico City and appreciating ALL its complexities for about six years, as a mom of a fabulous five year old little girl. I imagine we probably have friends in common too, because that is often the way it works in this enormous place. ;) I will keep following along in your blog, and I hope our paths cross one of these days. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun to compare notes. Bonito día!!

Oh! you've been here six years? I could probably glean some Mexico City street smarts off of you . . . send me a note if you are ever on my side of town (Roma Norte) and we'll hook up; I would love to compare notes!

  11. Really, it's a delightful peek into your life in the D F--I think what an advantage your children have to grow up there. I'm trying to decide which is my favorite highlight from the article.
I love your observation about the beauty of the Spanish language and that even in the mundane there is "poetry". But I think my favorite is the last thing "on wealth extremes", not because it's comfortable to read but because the description forces me to look into my own heart when I feel out of place of uncomfortable in a situation. That's good for me; thanks for writing about it.

  13. Hi Naomi- I really enjoyed your post on Cup of Jo a few weeks ago and I just made my way over to your blog. We're neighbors-- kinda : ) I went to Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA and now live in Guatemala. I've been here 3 years and my husband and I just had our first baby 2 months ago. So I'm learning how to navigate motherhood, ministry and life in a new country and culture. You're years ahead of me. Thanks for sharing what you have learned!
